In teen girls, depression, anxiety and smoking may inhibit bone growth, according to a new study.
Because of the strong link between osteoporosis and depression and smoking in adults, Dr. Lorah D. Dorn and her colleagues at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in Ohio, decided to look for similar associations during the teen years, when nearly 40-50% of bone mass is attained in girls.
